The Three Musketeers (1973)
Shelley Elbourne crafted this beautiful title sequence for director Richard Lester. Lester shot the duelling Michael York and Joss Ackland with rim lighting to enhance the later effects work. Shelley offset multiple exposure passes in the 35mm film optical process, resulting in this hypnotic stroboscopic sequence.
The technique was inspired by the 1968 BAFTA winning 'Pas de Deux' by Norman McLaren.
The main title cards were phototypeset in the uncial (all caps script) font Solemnis.
